It seems the best ways many Nigerians think of making money is through social media. Not legitimately though, but what I call social media beggars. While some ask celebrities for money for genuine purpose, others do it to scam them.
Following the kind act of Don Jazzy who paid the school fees of a student last week, the another social media beggar decided to scam Timaya.
The Dancehall singer almost fell to the tricks of the fraudster who posed like a lady, using the Instagram name Cynthia Obinna12.
The lady had claimed she needed assistance in paying her school fees. She wrote; Good morning Sir, I am very sorry for disturbing you but sir, please help me. I have not paid my school fees and I am in my final year. I want to write my project as well, please help me sir. My parents hjave been trying their best and I have been supporting too with petty Okirika I sell in school. But my responsibility has become more than my income and I ran out of capital to continue. Please help me sir.
The compassionate dancehall act asked the lady to send him a DM which she gladly acknowledged publicly writing; “O my God, he replied me” but minutes later she wrote again; “Sir I have been sending you DM but you didn’t reply.”
Things however got worse when another lady warned Timaya not to listen to the lady alleging that she stole her profile pictures.
“Please it is a scam o @Timaya. Don’t give anybody any money. The lady is a scammer. She stole my profile” the kind lady wrote.
She further added; “Please everybody report this profile, @cynthiaobinna12, she stole my profile picture.”
Timaya in response wrote; “You see why people don’t help, that gal asking for fees is a scam. Lol people sha…”
Another user reminded Timaya that the lady had only just created the profile two days ago (on Monday) probably for that purpose alone.
